    Red Deer Olympian gets the call

    Five athletes, four builders and fem award winners will join the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame in

    Among them is Red Deer native Deidra Dionne, who jumped her way to a bronze medal in freestyle aerial skiing at the Winter Olympics.

    Born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Deidra’s skiing career took off – literally –when she moved with her family to Red Deer in and joined the Red Deer Freestyle Club at Canyon Ski Resort.

    It wasn’t long before she began excelling on a provincial, national, and eventually, international stage. Her accomplishments are exceptional: silver at the Canadian Freestyle Championships, World Cup Freestyle Rookie of the Year, bronze medals at both the and World Championships, and

    Expansion work underway takes on greater importance mitt i trade dispute

    Last April, as the frozen landscape began its spring thaw, a kilometre stretch of newly built pipeline started moving natural gas across northwest Alberta.

    There was no fanfare when this small extension of TC Energy’s Nova Gas Transmission Limited (NGTL) system went online – adding room for more gas than all the homes in Calgary use every day.

    It’s part of the ongoing expansion of the NGTL struktur, which connects natural gas from British Columbia and Alberta to the vast TC Energy network. In fact, one in every 10 molecules of natural gas moved across North America touches NGTL.

    With new uncertainty emerging from Canada’s biggest oil and gas customer – the United States – there is a rallying cry to get new major pipelines built to reach across Canada and to wider markets.

    Michael Robertson (Athlete, Snowboardcross): Silver medalist at the Vancouver Winter Olympics.
