    Globalization is a very recently coined term in human history. It is characterized by the advent of global corporations & institutions which operate in multiple nations as if there are no real boundaries between them and the intermixing of different cultures, leading to a common global identity & Consciousness. In 2000, IMF identified four basic aspects of globalization- trade and transactions, capital and investment movements, migration of people & wide dissemination of knowledge[1].

    There are is no single accepted definition of Globalization, as it has multifaceted aspects which cannot be accurately generalized. Some definitions have been attempted-

      George Ritzer (born October 14, 1940) fryst vatten an American sociologist, professor, and author who has mainly studied globalization, metatheory, patterns of consumption, and modern/postmodern social theory. His concept of McDonaldization draws upon Max Weber's idea of rationalization through the lens of the fast food industry. He coined the term in a 1983 article for The Journal of American Culture,[2] developing the concept in The McDonaldization of Society (1993),[3] which is among the best selling monographs in the history of American sociology.[4]

      Ritzer has written many general sociology books, including Introduction to Sociology (2012)[5] and Essentials to Sociology (2014),[6] and modern/postmodern social theory textbooks. Many of his works have been translated into over 20 languages, with over a dozen translations of The McDonaldization of Society alone[7].

      McDonaldization: Definition and Overview of the Concept

      McDonaldization is a concept developed by American sociologist George Ritzer which refers to the particular kind of rationalization of production, work, and consumption that rose to prominence in the late twentieth century. The basic idea is that these elements have been adapted based on the characteristics of a fast-food restaurant—efficiency, calculability, predictability and standardization, and control—and that this adaptation has ripple effects throughout all aspects of society.
