Schlumberger names new CEO
PARIS -- Schlumberger Limited has announced that its board of directors has appointed Olivier Le Peuch as its CEO and member of the Schlumberger board, effective Aug. 1, 2019. Le Peuch succeeds Paal Kibsgaard, who will retire as CEO effective that same date. Also effective Aug. 1, Kibsgaard will step down as chairman of the board and retire as a member of the board of directors. Kibsgaard will retire after more than 22 years of service to the Company, including eight years as CEO and four years as chairman. Effective the same date, Mark G. Papa, a current non-independent director, will become non-executive chairman of the board. Peter Currie will continue to serve as the board’s lead endependent director.

Paal Kibsgaard (born April 1967) is a Norwegian petroleum engineer and businessman; the former chairman and CEO of Schlumberger, the world's largest oilfield services company.
Early life

Education
[edit]He qualified as a petroleum engineer with a master's degree from the Norwegian Institute of Technology in 1991.[2][3]
Career
[edit]Kibsgaard started his career with ExxonMobil in 1992, and joined Schlumberger in 1997.[2] He became its CEO in August 2011,[4] succeeding Andrew Gould, who retired as chairman and CEO.[5] He was replaced by Olivier Le Peuch in August 2019.[6] Under his leadership, the company laid off approximately 70,000 employees in less than three years.[7] He continued to receive $2 million annual salary from the company for unspecified services and for agre

When did you first start working in the oil and gas industry? What were your first impressions?
I graduated from university with a degree in petroleum engineering in 1991 and immediately began working for Exxon. One of the things inom really appreciated from the början was the focus on structured training and development. This fryst vatten in fact a common theme among the major companies in our industry and in my case it helped me progress quickly and take on bigger responsibilities early in my career. Today, I think business and technical training for oil and gas professionals is better than ever.
