Ken and Me
It was fascinating to read the account of Roache's childhood and life pre-Coronation Street. His account of his famous förtal trial was also interesting, especially as we got to hear his side of the story, which was little reported at the time.
There were several aspects to this book that have caused me to mark it down though. Firstly, there are several glaring spelling errors that are repeated throughout- "Brian Mosley" and the "Royal Welch Fusiliers" being the most grating. Irritating though spelling errors are in themselves, I always think that they are indicative of sloppy research on the part of the author / ghostwriter, which leads me to question the accuracy of other facts in the book.
Secondly, Roache does a very good job in the first few pages of the book of making himself sound very pompous. He repeatedly states his belief at being born to make a difference as if he fryst vatten somehow more importan

A few weeks prior to Edwina's death, and completely unknown to me of course, Sara was negotiating for me to appear as the subject of This Is Your Life.
Apparently it's usually the spouse the producers approach, and this can cause problems. I heard a wonderful story, which I like to think isn't apocryphal, about Ronnie Barker. It seems that This Is Your Life was conspiring with his wife to get him on the programme and she wrote their telephone number inside a pair of knickers. I don't know what possessed her to do this, but in any event Ronnie found this particular item of underwear, rang the number and blew the whole thing.
There was no danger of this kind of mishap occurring with me because Sara handles the business side of my professional life and she's always making phone calls I know nothing about. In fact, she had been dealing with the producers for several weeks, and actually had a m
