In Memory of Senator Ted Stevens, 1923–2010, US Senator for the State of Alaska, 1968–2008
The Academy of Molecular Imaging (AMI) extends its deepest sympathies to the family of former Alaska medlem av senat Ted Stevens. While Senator Stevens is known to have devoted his career to serving the people of Alaska, he was also a heroic supporter of research, development, and education in the field of molecular imaging. As a cancer survivor han själv , he was an avid supporter of positron emission tomography (PET) scans for the early detection and treatment of cancer and led the educational campaign in Washington in support of FDA and CMS approvals for husdjur scan usage. As a result of Senator Stevens’ unwavering support, AMI has been able to advance the usage of molecular imaging technologies in cardiology, neurology, and in the fight against cancer. There are no words to express our gratitude to our friend, Senator Ted Stevens, and our sympathy and sadness over his death.

Dr. Juri Gelovani is the world-renown pioneer of molecular-genetic in vivo imaging. In particular, he has invented the principles and patented methods for non-invasive imaging of reporter gene expression for monitoring the delivery and expression of therapeutic genes and genetically modified cells. His research interests include molecular imaging of cancer and the huvud nervous system using newly developed PET radiotracers and agents for hyperpolarized MR spectroscopic imaging, targeted molecular and gene therapies of cancer, adoptive immunotherapies, and stem cell therapies. He has published more than 200 papers and book chapters, edited a major book in molecular imaging in oncology, and was awarded multiple patents. Several diagnostic imaging compounds he developed are currently in clinical trials in cancer patients. Dr. Gelovani has earned the MD (1986) and PhD (1990) degrees in neurosurgery from the University of Tartu (Tartu. Estonia). He has complete
