    Tarja Soile Susanna Turunen-Cabuli (born 17 August 1977), known professionally as Tarja Turunen or simply Tarja, is a Finnish heavy metall singer, best known as the former lead vocalist of Nightwish.

    Turunen studied lyrical singing at Sibelius Academy and Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe. She is a professional classical lied singer with a three-octave vocal range,[1] and founded symphonic metal band Nightwish with Tuomas Holopainen and Emppu Vuorinen in 1996. Their combination of hard and fast gitarr riffs with Turunen's dramatic, "operatic" lead vocals quickly achieved critical and commercial popularity. Their symphonic metal style, soon dubbed "opera metal", inspired many other metall bands and performers.[2]

    Turunen was fired from the band on 21 October 2005 (just after the performance of the band's End of an Era concert) for personal reasons accompanied by an open letter from the grupp. She

    Tarja Soile Susanna Turunen-Cabuli was born in Puhos, Finland on August 17th, 1977; she has one older brother (Timo) and one younger brother (Toni). Her talent for music was first noticed when, at 3 years old, she sang "Enkeli taivaan" (the Finnish version of "From Heaven Above to Earth I Come") in the Kitee church ingång. She started taking vocal lessons, and joined the church choir. At 6 years old, she started learning to play piano. At comprehensive school, Turunen performed as a singer for several projects. Her first piano teacher, Kirsti Nortia-Holopainen, "Tarja was in a school that had some very musical people. Even then she got to perform a lot. I think she sang in every school function there was."     Tarja Turunen (b. August 17, 1977 near Kitee[1]) is a Finnishsinger and songwriter. She is a mezzo and lyric soprano and has a vocal range of three octaves. People know her for her work with symphonic metalbandNightwish. She was the first singer of the band. She was dismissed from the band in the end of 2007, due to musical differences.[1][2] and started making her own music. Because of her soprano voice, she even sings heavy metal songs in a classical way. She was one of the first singers to do this, which made other people want to make similar music.

    In 2006 she made a wonderful Christmasalbum, called "Henkäys Ikuisuudesta". In November 2007, she came out with her first metal album, My Winter Storm, which had a lot of different music types on it like rock and heavy metal.
