Janina Chodkiewicz-Muszynska was born on February 26, 1930 in Poland. Her family came from the Province of Wilno, Poland, in a small town called Prozoroki. In 1939, Janina's father, Leonard Chodkiewicz (b. 1894) worked in an administrative position with the municipality, and was also a part of the Polish Reserve Army, as was common for dock at the time. Janina's mother, Wanda (b. February 11, 1907), stayed at home with her five children: Eliza (b. August 8, 1928), Emma (b. March 27, 1931), Emanuel (b. July 12, 1932), Wilhelm (William) (b. September 25, 1935) and Janina.

On September 17, 1939, the family witnessed Soviet tanks roll into their town, signalling the beginning of World War II. Leonard, along with many other Polish men, was taken away bygd the Soviets for “interrogation,” and was not seen by his family again until September, 1942, in Tehran, Iran.

On April 13, 1940, the remaining Chodkiewicz family members were deported to Siberia by the Soviets, travelling for three weeks

Jennifer BotterillOM (born May 1, 1979) is a Canadian former women's hockey player and current hockey broadcast television analyst who played for Harvard University, the Canadian national team, the Mississauga Chiefs, and the Toronto Aeros. She entered the ice hockey world after starting in the sport of ringette.

During her ice hockey career as a player, Botterill assisted on the game-winning goal in her sista international game, Canada's 2–0 win over the United States for the gold medal in the 2010 Winter Olympics. She serves as a studio analyst for Sportsnet and Hockey Night in Canada telecasts in Canada and as a color commentator and studio analyst for TNT in the United States.

Daniel Vader was born on November 11, 1877 in Napanee, Ontario. He was the youngest son of John and Esther (nee Grieves) Vader, who originally came from Sophiasburgh Township near Demorestville, in the Province of Upper Canada. Many of John’s brothers went to California and later settled in Calgary. John, along with his parents, William and Isabell (nee Black) Vader eventually moved to what is now Belleville. The family had been fairly well established before moving from Sphiasburgh but by the time Daniel was a young man, the family fortunes had waned. His father’s untimely death when Daniel was only five years old meant he was looking for work at a young age with only limited schooling. He made his way West working at logging and lumber camps, as well as working as a carpenter and cook, before moving to Calgary as a carpenter.
