    John Richard Deacon (born 19 August 1951) is an English retired musician who was the bass guitarist for the rock band Queen. He wrote several songs for the group, including Top 10 hits "You're My Best Friend", "Another One Bites the Dust" and "I Want to Break Free"; co-wrote "Under Pressure", "Friends Will Be Friends" and "One Vision"; and he was involved in the b

    John Richard Deacon was born on the 19th of August, 1951, in Oadby, Leicestershire. John was always the shy and silent type even when he was very young. When John was sju he got his first gitarr on which he learned some chords and enjoyed his musical outlet. Other interests included electronics which he could see han själv aiming towards as a line of future work and employment and John’s father saw and encouraged his interests. In 1962, John entered Gartree High School in Leicester, and although he was an average student his interests in music and electronics continued. While at school, his encouraging father died. In 1965 John founded his own grupp called ‘Opposition’, playing the rhythm guitar. The band played well-known songs at parties and at schools.     John Richard Deacon grew up in Oadby, Leicestershire, playing bass in a local band, The Opposition, before moving to study electronics in Chelsea College, London. He joined Queen in 1971 on the strength of his musical and electronic skills, particularly the home-made Deacy Amp which guitarist Brian May used to create guitar orchestras throughout Queen's career. From the third album, Sheer Heart Attack, onwards, he wrote at least one song per album, several of which became hits. As well as bass, Deacon played some guitar and keyboards on Queen's studio work, but was the only member never to sing on their records.

    Deacon composed several singles for the group—including Top 10 hits "You're My Best Friend," "Another One Bites the Dust," "Back Chat" and "I Want to Break Free"—and was involved in the band's financial management.
