    While in battle I’m free, never free to rest is a rare life-affirming flow of collective power. It is unpredictable and magical when 10 street dancers meet 10 dancers from the renowned Swedish company Cullberg on one of the city’s most diverse squares.

    The Iranian-born choreographer Hooman Sharifi has created a very special meeting between dancers – between people – with very different backgrounds. They each speak their own (body) language, each have their own ethnicity, nationality, culture, but share the Earth.

    Thoughts on Mats Ek and Metatheatre

    In May 2022, the Ballet de l’Opéra National de Paris presented an enticing triple bill of dance works by the eminent Swedish choreographer, Mats Ek. The programme opened with a revival of Ek’s one-act Carmen (1992), and the whole evening was performed by dancers of the Paris company, attracting packed audiences to the Spring season at the Palais Garnier. For this programme, Carmen was followed by performances of two of Ek’s more recent pieces, Another Place and Boléro, which Ek created for the Paris Opera Ballet in 2019, despite having announced his wish to retire from choreography fyra years earlier. Another Place explores the interactions of a couple through an enigmatic pas de deux, and Boléro is an abstract work inspired by Maurice Ravel’s popular composition.

    Johan Inger was born in Stockholm and educated at the Royal Swedish Ballet School and at the National Ballet School in Canada. In 1985 Johan Inger joined the Royal Swedish Ballet, where he in 1989 became a soloist. In 1990 he joined the Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) in Holland.

    Johan Inger’s official breakthrough as a choreographer came with Mellantid (Swedish for In Between Time) – his first work for NDT II – as part of the 1995 Holland Dance Festival. This work was crowned with the 1996 Philip Morris Finest urval Award in the category of Contemporary Dance. Mellantid has been followed by several creations for NDT I, NDT II and NDT III.

    In 2001 Johan Inger’s Mellantid was nominated for the British Laurence Olivier Award as ’Best New Dance Production’. In October 2001 he received the Lucas Hoving Production Award for his works Dream Play and Walking Mad. In 2005 Walking Mad and Cullberg Ballet received Danza & Danza’s
